Performance 101; Dream-Crushing Footage

and while I am on the subject of performances...

as a performer you have to rate yourself as such... a performer. which means you have to somehow relate your status next to this guy:

I watched that video, and then said to myself, "Do yourself a favor, watch that whole thing again, take a shower, and cry yourself to sleep tonight, because Justin Timberlake just took everything you thought you could offer entertainment, dropped his pants and took a dump on it". That guy is better than Michael Jackson. Now; if a less capable band were even ABLE to sell that many tickets... could they hope to add up to that kind of show and perform that well? That guy doesn't have bad nights... What a monster.

Inspiring (or dream-crushing) video number 2 for the day:

Jimmy Rosenberg is a genius gypsy jazz player who can't stay clean... That video is almost twenty years old. Although his story is tragic, the good news is that he still plays today:

Alice Cooper was no fucking joke.... Watch how much better television was in 1976

Apparently, the woman he grabs in the beginning and dances with in the end is the same; his wife?!

Animus (polar) and Harvester Mantra

I play in a metal band... We like to be loud, obnoxious, and cranking our mesa boogie dual rectifiers. With that said... sometimes after my ears bleed enough, I need to work on something a little less intense.

Here are two low-key ambient tracks I am working on for an upcoming art documentary:

From Exile

Since most of my work in the last couple years has been devoted to this band, I wanted to drop one heavy mega-post of content to get it out of the way;

First of all, our 2006 release is available for free download on our website, www.fromexile.com. We recorded it with the great Anthony Stubelek at his studio in Bruswick, GA. It was an awesome experience and although the record is almost 2 years old now, we are still very proud of it.

Here are some live videos;

Masquerade Oct. 5 2006

Masquerade Feb. 17 2007

Here is a clip of an acoustic set we did for Home Park Fest 2007:

Currently, we are recording a follow up EP with Eyal Levi (DAATH, Arsis), due in Summer.

Here is an original remix of an instrumental track off Crushing Reality:

Download the mp3 of "Phantom (illumination)" here

I can't wait to finish this next recording, as it is a significant progression musically from our old material... It is almost like an entirely new band.

Check the From Exile Myspace or join the From Exile mailing list for regular show updates.

Experimenting with the Korg Kaossilator

The first track I am releasing here is a 2-minute experimentation with a Korg Kaossilator; I spent about 3 hours on it this afternoon....

Download the mp3 here

This cool half-synth, half-toy is selling out in stores all over Japan; Lucky enough, one of my associates was able to find one at a local Atlanta store.

To get a quick glimpse of how it works, watch a minute of this:

The options are a little limited; there is no mixing functionality or control over various loops, but it still holds potential for some use in the professional realm. It could be a lifesaver used as a quick interim in a DJ set, for example. Ultimately, its is still just a toy, with no capacity to load user sounds or MIDI capabilities.

I think the success of this ~200$ makes it safe to assume that Korg will expand this idea into a more professional-audio minded tool.
